Joe DeNatale, a Chicago based commercial and fine art photographer, sums up his artistic charter like this: “It’s about cajoling your eyers to dance.”
When the Dodgers left Brooklyn in his youth, Joe DeNatale had an inkling that a better future for him lay elsewhere, too. Now a thirty-year resident of Chicago, where baseball has also famously disappointed, there’s the unmistakable undercurrent of fiery passion and intense humility courtesy of his Brooklyn roots.
Joe studied Multimedia at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He then went on to Southern Illinois University where he earned a B.S. in Cinema and Photography. Incorporating themes of motion and drama in still images has secured decades of success for a photographer whose craftsmanship is still in demand.
Underscoring his focus on making
the most of the here and now, Joe will reluctantly admit that there are boxes of awards in his basement from his commercial collaborations with scores of art directors and designers. Joe also has work in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.
And beyond his meticulously honed techniques for shooting food, he can also claim extraordinary credentials as a general practitioner having shot products on behalf of numerous Fortune 500 clients.
The ever-modest Joe sums up his artistic charter like this:
